What are your triggers? How sensitive are they?
#1
I'm wondering what are common triggers for psychosis or psychotic symptoms, and if people have different triggers for different symptoms.
Mine are stress and the dark. I'm so sensitive to the dark I get assaulted my all manor of symptoms as soon as I'm in complete darkness, it's been years since I've slept in the dark... My trigger for stress isn't so sensitive, but now I have a fear of stress is inhibits my daily life as a result.

Bonus question: If your triggers are the same as mine (or even if they aren't I'm not your boss), how do your symptoms manifest in those situations?
For me, most commonly in darkness I get all sorts of hallucinations, feelings of being watched, delusions involving there being 'something' in the dark, a sense of impending doom and paranoia, plus if I think of something unpleasant too hard, it will manifest. In terms of stress, it triggers ALL of my symptoms with them being more severe the more stressed I am, though they will usually not occur if I'm around other people. As you can imagine, this snowballs fast, I'll be stressed, then, to start, I'll get stressed about being stressed (because I know it usually ends in psychosis), then my symptoms will stress me further, eventually the symptoms get so bad that I can't sleep, either due to always being in fear, or the knowledge that if I go to sleep too stressed I WILL have sleep paralysis, if I haven't gone into full blown acute psychosis by the time I get to insomnia, then the insomnia will cause it.

Hello Zach, you might remember me.

Personally, my triggers seem to be stress from feelings of urgency and lack of sleep. Sometimes, my symptoms come on without any apparent trigger, though. Like when I find it difficult to move, it comes on seemingly for no reason.

Stress is my biggest trigger for psychosis. It’s a very general thing which makes it hard to avoid. But it seems like my brains response to stress, even things which you wouldn’t think are stressful for most people, is to get into psychosis.

My stress levels are pretty high at baseline, so things which push me over the edge are usually small things.

If it gets to the point where I stop taking my medication, everything implodes.

stress for sure. and certain movies like the chainsaw man cannot watch. he chases me and stuff. also music. i have to time listening to music just right or the singers become highly demonic voices giving me signs and warning in their lyrics. like i cannot listen to avirl laginve or who ever at all anymore. shes a HUGE trigger and its very sensitive,, also mirrors, screens, lights .. mirrors show me who is behind me , screens show me who is wanting in .. and lights , cause a communication technique when they are own that lets me here them talking , but i also cannot be in the pitch black darkness or i will freak out. so its a battle , i often chose the lights .. theres many many more but this is enough for now.

my main triggers are also stress and complete darkness, I have my laptops on all the time to ensure I'm not in the dark and I fall asleep with the lamps on all the time.

in the dark I get hallucinations and a sense of impending doom, and with stress I get a barrage of voices that usually command me to do things as well as delusions (feeling like I'm in a simulation or I'm an android)
