I'm wondering what are common triggers for psychosis or psychotic symptoms, and if people have different triggers for different symptoms.
Mine are stress and the dark. I'm so sensitive to the dark I get assaulted my all manor of symptoms as soon as I'm in complete darkness, it's been years since I've slept in the dark... My trigger for stress isn't so sensitive, but now I have a fear of stress is inhibits my daily life as a result.
Bonus question: If your triggers are the same as mine (or even if they aren't I'm not your boss), how do your symptoms manifest in those situations?
For me, most commonly in darkness I get all sorts of hallucinations, feelings of being watched, delusions involving there being 'something' in the dark, a sense of impending doom and paranoia, plus if I think of something unpleasant too hard, it will manifest. In terms of stress, it triggers ALL of my symptoms with them being more severe the more stressed I am, though they will usually not occur if I'm around other people. As you can imagine, this snowballs fast, I'll be stressed, then, to start, I'll get stressed about being stressed (because I know it usually ends in psychosis), then my symptoms will stress me further, eventually the symptoms get so bad that I can't sleep, either due to always being in fear, or the knowledge that if I go to sleep too stressed I WILL have sleep paralysis, if I haven't gone into full blown acute psychosis by the time I get to insomnia, then the insomnia will cause it.
